History

In 2018, the United Nations General Assembly designated January 24 as International Education Day to raise awareness of the importance and availability of education worldwide. The resolution, authored by 59 member states, was adopted on 3 December 2018. The day highlights the role of education in promoting peace and sustainable development. The first celebration took place on January 24, 2019 and has been celebrated annually since then. The International Day of Education 2024 celebrations are the sixth year that the importance of education has been recognized on this designated day.
